Orme School is a coeducational, college preparatory boarding and day school located on a rustic 300-acre campus surrounded by a 26,000-acre working cattle ranch. At an altitude of 4,000 feet, the School enjoys a year round ideal climate with cool evening breezes from surrounding mountains and is protected in a snug valley from cold winter temperatures. Enrollment is limited in number in order to preserve a family atmosphere and a close relationship between teachers and students. The student body is diverse and represents many states and foreign countries. A student-centered academic program is combined with a wholesome outdoor life that stresses responsibility, earnest achievement and genuine opportunities for balanced growth and development.
Academic and Sport Facilities
Orme’s academic facilities include the Mosher Math and Humanities Center, Mosher Science and Math Center, Metal Arts Shop, Glass Blowing Studio, Buck Hart Horsecollar Performing Arts Theater, Art Annex, Music Room, Language Building, and the Old Adobe English classroom. The Philips Library is the center of Orme’s academic program. With expansive windows to the beautiful desert view, students have access to 18,000 books onsite and many more through the library’s network. Orme’s extensive equestrian facility features a full rodeo arena with stock chutes, English and Dressage arena, 25 private stalls in our Mare Motel, 15 grazing pastures, 2 round pens, and 26,000 acres of high desert riding trails. Orme’s campus also boasts an outdoor swimming pool, paintball arena, tennis courts, gymnasium, and fitness center.
Boarding Facilities and Life
Students live on campus, two in each room, with a bathroom for each two-room suite. Dorm life offers a comfortable respite, time for hanging out with friends, catching up on homework, listening to music, and learning each day how to take responsibility into one’s own hands. Students learn this responsibility through community involvement, leadership, the generous support and wisdom of faculty and staff, cultural diversity, accountability, and pitching in to help others. Adventure and fun abound right outside their own dorm room, from Friday night Frisbee games to star-gazing on nearby mesas.
