Squaw Valley Academy

Private Boarding School – Olympic Valley , California

Squaw Valley Academy is a college-preparatory international boarding school at Lake Tahoe for grades 9-12. It enrolls students who need the structure of small classes, two-hour evening study halls, and weekend activities. As the oldest private school at Lake Tahoe, founded in 1978, the individual needs of each student remain an integral part of Squaw Valley Academy campus life. The staff and faculty believe self-esteem is enhanced through real accomplishment in the academic, athletic, and social aspects of life at a boarding school. All students participate in Outdoor Education that integrates the math, science, and humanities curricula outside the traditional classroom.

Dormitories and School Residences
SVA boarding students gain a strong sense of family and community by living with usually one-two roommates in a private room. Most rooms have a view of the surrounding Tahoe National Forest. The residential buildings have in-residence adult chaperones, free-of-charge laundry facilities, and lounges. SVA has limited high-speed wireless Internet; students are required to bring their own laptop computers.

The on-campus Dining Hall serves well-balanced meals each day. On weekdays, an additional soup and salad bar is offered with lunch, while students may also enjoy the salad bar with their dinner. Fresh fruit is available in the Dining Hall: usually apples, bananas, oranges in winter, with added cut-fruit mélange at the salad bar, and in summer a mix of seasonal, locally grown fruit. Seven different local pluots (a cross between plums and apricots) are seen in summer.

Olympic Valley, California (also known as Squaw Valley) is an unincorporated community located in Placer County northwest of Tahoe City along California State Highway 89 on the banks of the Truckee River near Lake Tahoe.
