Hyde School Maine

Private Boarding School – Bath , Maine

The Hyde School in Bath, Maine was established in 1966 on the beautiful Hyde family estate. The 145 acre campus features the grand 1914 mansion and the original Serenity Garden. New buildings include the gracious new library and classroom building adjacent to the Hyde Mansion and the large Student Center attached to a modern gymnasium.

Hyde’s founding statement is that each individual is gifted with a unique potential that defines a destiny. For over forty years, Hyde has been developing its program in accordance with a simple premise: “let us value attitude over aptitude, effort over ability and character over talent.” Hyde prepares student for college and for life.

Hyde’s college preparatory program is based upon the development of character and promotes an interdisciplinary curriculum encompassing traditional secondary academics, athletics, performing arts, and community service. In addition to traditional grading, faculty and peer evaluations are stressed. An unusual degree of responsibility is given to each student in the overall decision-making and operation of the School.

Hyde School has an optional program for families as well in which parents actively participate to develop their own character in monthly meetings in their geographic regions. International parents are invited to participate but given the distances involved, their participation is optional. Local host families are available and ESL is by private tutoring.
