Located in the historic ship-building city of Bath, Maine, the Hyde School Bath campus was founded in 1966. Hyde’s college preparatory program is based upon the development of character and promotes an interdisciplinary curriculum encompassing traditional secondary academics, athletics, performing arts, and community service. In addition to traditional grading, faculty and peer evaluations are stressed. An unusual degree of responsibility is given to each student in the overall decision-making and operation of the school and students are encouraged to develop their leadership abilities.
Formerly the estate of shipbuilder John S. Hyde, the sprawling 145-acre New England campus includes several restored historic buildings. The stunning campus includes the Wheeler Library, an all-inclusive athletic center with field house, wrestling room, entertainment center, weight and cardio rooms overlooking a garden, bookstore, café, the Student Cultural Center, the Spiritual Center, three playing fields including a turf field, an all-weather track, indoor tennis and basketball courts, and several dormitories. Year-round, students and faculty enjoy miles of wooded running, bicycling, and cross-country skiing trails that extend beyond the campus.
Sports and Arts
Hyde’s community is composed of many individuals of varying athletic backgrounds and interests; therefore, they offer a comprehensive sports program to peak interests. Students can explore their artistic interests in the Art Barn, an old renovated barn with a front window that allows for plenty of natural light, or record their own original music in a fully-equipped professional recording studio.
Dormitories and Student Life
Students live in single-sex dorms and each room houses between 2-3 students. There are pay phones available for student use in each dorm. There is also a student life and activity center where students can play games and watch TV/movies.
