Educating students in grades 9-12, Orono High School has a tradition of academic excellence. Along with college preparatory classes, the U.S. public high school offers Advanced Placement and intensive English language courses. A unique benefit of attending Orono High School is that All graduating seniors from Orono High School are eligible for automatic conditional acceptance to the University of Maine.
FACILITIES
Orono High School is located next door to the University of Maine and shares its facilities. The grounds have state-of-the-art new media and fitness centers, a planetarium,
athletic fields, a student union, science labs and a 3D printer. Most of the classrooms are also equipped with projectors and Smartboards. Orono High School also has a fully
certified ropes course located on 30 acres of land with an Outdoor Education curriculum.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Athletics are a big part of Orono High School, with a large majority of students participating in team sports. In recent years the school has taken home a total of nine state championships trophies. The arts are very important at Orono High School. In 2014, Orono High School created a “MUSE” block. During MUSE, only art, music and drama classes are offered.

A nationally recognized high school by US News and World Report, it’s also a member of the Top 5% of school districts in the U.S.

Orono is home to The University of Maine, making Orono High School a great place to study. It's a liberal, safe and welcoming community. Many host families are associated with the university or with the high school--education is very important to the community. The town of Orono is very walkable, and most host families live within walking distance of the school and the downtown, which has several restaurants and coffee shops. In 10 minutes, you can be in Maine's second largest city, Bangor. Bangor is home to shopping malls, a major concert venue, an international airport, several hospitals, and author Steven King's house! Bangor is ranked the 8th safest city in the US; Maine is ranked the 4th happiest state in the US.
