Founded in 1811, Thornton Academy is one of New England’s oldest college preparatory schools, it offers a comprehensive high school curriculum consisting of 140 courses that include 7 foreign languages, 30 arts classes, 42 honors classes, and 24 Advanced Placement courses.
FACILITIES
Campus facilities include eight buildings: a library, a science building, two humanities buildings, a foreign language building, an art center, an observatory, and a 500-person
theater. Sports facilities include sports fields, tracks, basketball court, and four multi-purpose stadiums.
SPORTS AND ARTS
With its size and modern sports facilities, Thornton Academy is a top choice for students who want to play sports at a competitive level. The athletics program even has its own
athletic hall of fame.Thornton’s Dramatic Arts have traditionally been regarded as a highly developed program that includes courses in Theater Basics, Acting and Technical Theater with a focus on media arts.
DORMITORIES AND STUDENT LIFE
Thornton Academy has two dormitories that have Wi-Fi, kitchenettes, laundry facilities, modern bathrooms, and lounges with big screen TVs. Rooms include a bed, desk, wardrobe,
dresser, bookshelf, and chair for each student. Students have their own outdoor basketball court and several outdoor barbeque dinners throughout the year.
