Northwood School

Private Boarding School – Lake Placid , New York

At over 100 years old, the Northwood School has a tradition of producing thoughtful, engaged and passionate leaders in society. Located about two hours from Albany, Northwood is removed from the distractions of any major city. Students can develop academically and intellectually with a lot of one-on-one instruction with their teachers. The wide spread of AP courses ensures a level of rigor that many top universities come to expect from their applicants. School choices are as varied as the extracurricular and academic offerings. Many students matriculate to top schools on the east coast like Boston College, Wesleyan University and Connecticut College.

Northwood offers students a unique combination of rigorous academic preparation, wilderness appreciation and athletic competition.

Academic and Sports Facilities at Campus
Three-Story Main Building, Science Building, Art Center/Girl’s dorm, Ski Building, Hockey sheds. Three soccer fields, two indoor and two outdoor tennis courts, State of the art fitness center which includes a climbing wall. Whiteface Mountain is 11 miles from school, Olympic ice arena – 1 mile from school. Crew team rows on Mirror Lake, less than ¼ mile from school.

Dormitories and School Residences
The boys dorm is located in the campus' main building (3 floors) while the girl’s dorm lies separate. Most students bring their own cell phones for private use in the dorms. TV is available in the Student Center and the common area of the girl’s dorm. About 85% of students attending at Northwood are boarders.

Location
The Village of Lake Placid is about two hours north Albany. The surrounding wilderness allows international students to focus on their studies and explore the beauty as well as outdoor activities northern New York is known for.
