Northwood School, founded in 1905, is an independent co-educational boarding school for grades 9-12. Northwood is a college preparatory school serving about 175 students. Northwood’s unique and supportive learning environment combines rigorous academics with wilderness education and vigorous athletic competition. The Northwood School provides intimate class sizes with an average of 10 students per class and a challenging academic curriculum with Advanced Placement and Honors courses designed to prepare students for the top universities in the country.

Facilities
Situated in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains in the Olympic village of Lake Placid, the 80 acres of campus include a fitness center, student learning center, computer/ science labs, and more.

Sports and Arts
Northwood has a wide-variety of competitive sports including four major winter sports that they have been nationally recognized for: Boys’ Hockey, Girls’ Hockey, Alpine Skiing, and Freestyle Skiing. In particular, Northwood’s hockey program is world renowned with many Olympic champions. Students can also take advantage of unique opportunities through the arts program such as fiber arts and steel drum courses.

Dormitories and Student Life
The boy’s dorm is in the main building, the girl’s dorm is in a separate building and most students have their own cell phones. Television only available in the Student Center and the girl’s dorm. About 85% of the students attending Northwood are boarders.

Location
The Village of Lake Placid is about two hours north Albany. The surrounding wilderness allows international students to focus on their studies and explore the beauty as well as outdoor activities northern New York is known for.
