Bishop O’Dowd High School is an exciting and diverse Catholic school focused on preparing around 1200 talented young men and women for college through an integrated academic, spiritual, and co-curricular program. The professional faculty and staff, together with part-time coaches and moderators, are dedicated to preparing the students to lead extraordinary lives. The school is one of the most desirable and unique high schools in America and is currently engaged in the complete remodeling of all academic facilities. Over 99 percent of Bishop O’Dowd graduates enroll in colleges and universities in California and across the nation. More than 12,000 graduates have been added to the ranks of alumni since the first class graduated in 1955, fulfilling roles of leadership and service in the Bay Area and worldwide. The goal of the school is to graduate even more exemplary citizens who will transform society with their values, intelligence, skills, and leadership.

Academic

Bishop O’Dowd’s college preparatory curriculum includes Advanced Placement courses in 19 subjects, and an enhanced range of services to accommodate college bound students with learning differences. The curriculum includes honors courses in mathematics, language, English, social studies, science, computer programming and multimedia design. Bishop O’Dowd also offers a fully integrated arts and drama program, an environmental science program and five foreign languages are also offered. A wireless technology environment throughout the school allows students and faculty easy access to the Internet, and encourages student-centered learning. Students are encouraged to bring and use laptops on campus. Technology is integrated in class rooms throughout the school campus and all students starting grade 9 will be required to use a laptop for their classes.

Location

Oakland is located in Northern California in the San Francisco Bay Area and is one of the nation's most diverse cities both culturally and physical. The city's landscape is a picturesque mix of lovely hillside neighborhoods; exciting and diverse architecture, a bustling waterfront, 19 miles of shoreline along the San Francisco Bay, unparalleled Bay views, and more parks. Students have plenty of activities to keep them busy and can easily take the train into San Francisco.

Campus Ministry

All students participate in school and class liturgies, service projects, and student retreats throughout their four years. Each class has its own Campus Ministry Council, and the Campus Ministry Program provides intense immersions for students wishing to do service in other cultures.
