Academics

BHCC offers 49 associate degree programs that enable students to complete the first two years of their bachelor’s degrees. After which these students transfer to universities for the final two years. Articulation agreements between BHCC and public and private universities make it easy to transfer, and transfer counselors help every step of the way. Academic excellence is important at BHCC.

The school offers a dynamic Honors program, an award-winning Honor Society and assistance in transferring to top universities after graduation. BHCC also has options for students who do not wish to go on for a bachelor’s degree. Students can enroll in an associate degree program, or instead pursue one of 28 certificate programs. These program options will prepare students for work in occupations like Accounting, International Business and Culinary Arts.

The average class size at BHCC is 19 students. That’s a lot different than the size of introductory classes at many universities. Those classes often contain 100-200 students. At BHCC, your professors will know your name and where you’re from by the end of the first week. Your professors and advisors will know you well enough to help you choose the best university when it’s time to transfer.

English As Second Language (ESL)

Evidence of English proficiency is required for all international students whose native language is not English. If applicants are already in the U.S., they can demonstrate English proficiency by taking the BHCC Placement Test instead of the TOEFL. Students who cannot take the BHCC Placement Test must take the TOEFL, and obtain at least 423 on the written test, 113 on the computer-based, and 38 total with 15 on the writing part of the TOEFL iBT to enter the academic program.

Bunker Hill offers 3 levels of Academic ESL which are suitable for students on a student visa. Those levels are Intermediate and higher and concentrate on developmental English - concentrating on development reading and writing so that they can continue on to college writing.

For those that do not meet the language requirements, they are conditionally accepted to Bunker Hill Community College and are welcome to enroll after completion of the EC English Schools’ ESL Programs and successful testing on the BHCC placement test.
