Garden School

New York City, New York

Garden School was founded in 1923 to meet the need for a high-quality, independent school in Queens, NY. The dedicated faculty and administration work to offer the student body the best possible education in an atmosphere where both individual goals and those of the community are respected and nurtured.

At the center of Garden School is the curriculum is small classes, freedom from bureaucracy, and carefully focused college counseling. Garden School’s low tuition (compared with other independent schools in the metropolitan New York area) makes it an affordable option to a broad spectrum of families. The diverse student body enhances the learning process through an inherent and ongoing cultural exchange. Students are encouraged to understand and respect their classmates and neighbors as they learn in our challenging academic community and prepare to move on to college and a broader environment where they can use their skills as learned citizens of the world.

There is more to life than academics at Garden School. Periods are set aside each afternoon for supplementary help in every subject. Clubs tap into students’ desire for community service values and socialization over shared interests. The athletic program is exciting, vibrant, and important to many of our students, with three seasons of varsity sports—soccer, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, tennis, and softball—and participation in the Girls’ and the Boys’ Independent School Athletic League.
