Community Profile

Los Angeles is the second-largest city in the United States and its metropolitan area is home to nearly 12.9 million people who hail from all over the globe and speak 224 different languages. Often abbreviated as L.A. and nickname The City of Angeles, it is one of the world's most prominent centers of culture, technology, media, business, and international trade. It is home to renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields, and it is one of the most important economic engines of the United States. Los Angeles also leads the world in producing popular entertainment — such as motion picture, television, video games and recorded music — which forms the base of its international fame and global status. Therefore it is also frequently referred to as The Entertainment Capital of the World. The city experiences 325 sunny days every year with dry, warm to hot summers and cool to mild, light rain winters with low humidity year-round, making it possible to spend plenty of time in the sun on the beach or play a wide range of sports from volleyball to golf.
