Millikin University

Located on 75 acres in Decatur, Illinois, Millikin University is a private, comprehensive institution serving approximately 2,400 undergraduate, graduate, full-time and part-time students who study in four colleges/schools: Arts and Sciences, Business, Fine Arts and Professional Studies. Millikin’s mission is to deliver on the promise of education. At Millikin, we prepare students for professional success; democratic citizenship in a global environment; and a personal life of meaning and value.

Internships are an integral part of a Millikin education. Students apply classroom learning to internships and consulting projects, both in Decatur and around the country. International corporations located in Decatur hire Millikin students in a variety of capacities as well. Students also conduct internships outside of Illinois and across the country: working for radio stations in Arizona, theatre troupes in Michigan, even the White House in Washington, D.C. A vibrant campus community also allows students to get involved in more than 90 student organizations and a close-knit Greek community. Millikin Big Blue athletics include 20 NCAA Division III teams as well as junior varsity teams and intramurals.

Academic and Sport Facilities

Millikin’s academic buildings all house classrooms, professor offices and study areas for student use. ADM-Scovill Hall – home to the Tabor School of Business, Kirkland Fine Arts Center – Departments of Art and Theatre & Dance, Leighty Tabor Science Center – College of Arts & Sciences & School of Nursing, Perkinson Music Center – School of Music, Shilling Hall – College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, Department of Theatre & Dance.

Griswold Physical Education Center – Features a 3,052-seat gymnasium, three basketball courts, a six-lane McIntosh Pool.

Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC) -Includes a 200-meter indoor track, climbing wall, virtual golf simulators, batting cages, and a fitness and weights center.

Frank M. Lindsay Track & Field – Includes a state-of-the-art, 8-lane, all-weather track, regulation football field and 4000-seat stadium.

Millikin’s Soccer Complex and Rotary Park Softball Field, as well as nearby parks and golf courses, allow students to practice and play any sport close to campus.

Dormitories and School Residences

There are 10 residence halls or The Woods at Millikin. Choose from all male, all-female, or co-ed halls. Hessler Hall offers a unique “International learning community” pairing International and domestic students as roommates. Upperclassmen also have the option of living in The Woods at Millikin, an 800-apartment complex with single bedrooms, full kitchens, and wireless internet access.

Academic Admission Requirements

Two letters of recommendation, one from guidance counselor or headmaster and one from teacher.

Minimum TOEFL score of 550 on written or 213 on electronic test.

Completed admission application.

Official copies of academic records from secondary & post secondary work.

One page statement that describes your educational background, plans & objectives at Millikin, and career goals.

Certification of your finances must be completed before Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) is issued.

Starting Dates

Academic year begins August, 26th. First year students arrive a week earlier and attend a “First Week” orientation.

The Community

Millikin University founded by a local banker and entrepreneur, and is located in Decatur, Illinois, a city of 89,000 within three hours driving distance from Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis. The city has both industrial and agri-business strengths, with Archer Daniels Midland and a division of Caterpillar headquartered there. Decatur features hundreds of acres dedicated to green park space, countless original restaurants and entertainment venues, and plenty of businesses, along with shopping malls.
