Although the soccer season has ended for quite a while, it is always fun to recall all the memory I had with the team.
I started the season a little late due to the physical test I had to take in order to play. However, I managed to catch on with the team quickly. It was very fun to play along side with these gentlemen. My school, McDonell Catholic High School in Chippewa Falls, doesn’t have enough players so we teamed up with Regis, another Catholic school in Eau Claire. We had practice everyday after school from 3:30p.m to 5:00p.m. There were also two other exchange students from Germany, Kevin and Benedikt. Kevin has great ball skills while Benedikt has very strong strike. Our coach Tim is a great guy. He is very good at keeping the team together and coming up with great tactics.
We developed very quickly throughout the season. I had one goal and one assist in the same game. I received the corner kick from Mile, dribbled through three defenders and took the shot. The ball was blocked by a defender and changed it direction but the ball still ended up in the net. That night was an unforgettable night for me.
We won most of our games this season. We easily won the Conference Championship. We made it into the Regional Championship. Our Regional Playoff is quite intensive, but we won 2-0. The champion’s match was unbelievable. We played against Amery, which is a very good team. I wasn’t here when we played them at the beginning of the season but I heard we lost 0-9 to them. However, after the whole season, our team developed a lot. That game was crazy. Ben, who is a junior in my school, got injured badly during the game and had to leave for the hospital. Our coach even had a yellow card, which was really funny, because he was yelling at the referee. The score was 2-2 when the final whistle blew. We had to go to extra time. 25 minutes passed away very fast; it was only 5 minutes away from the penalty shootout when Adam Erickson, a senior from Regis, scored a beautiful volley into Amery’s net. We all ran into the field to celebrate his goal. The atmosphere was absolutely crazy. The last 3 minutes seemed to be endless. When the final whistle blew, we were the Regional champions.
It was a very interesting experience to participate in one or more sport teams during high school years. By joining these sport team, you will learn many precious things about friendship, teamwork,.. and especially the importance of having fun. After soccer season, I am currently doing cross country skiing this winter. I am also looking forward to the Track & Field season this spring.
