The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is located along the coast of Lake Ontario and is a little more than an hour outside of Toronto. The Durham Catholic District School Board has four different foreign languages to offer in addition to their ESL program. All the schools in this district also have Advanced Placement courses for students to take as well as a couple Dual Credit course opportunities. There are also many electives for students to choose from including Drama, Law, and Marketing. Extracurricular activities are quite popular at the schools, featuring both artistic options such as Art Club and Drama Club and interest-based clubs such as Social Justice and Yearbook.
The Durham Catholic District School Board has two recently built schools within its district, offering brand new facilities for their students. Schools in the DCDSB have facilities such as athletic fields, music rooms. art studios, and chapels for prayer.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Schools in the Durham Catholic District School Board offer a verity of athletic programs for their students. Varsity sports are offered seasonally and include Basketball, Football, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
Each of the DCDSB schools have large arts programs with many courses and extracurricular activities for students to choose from. The Durham Catholic District School Board also has a new Regional Arts & Media Program for students to focus on specific arts programs such as Dance, Performing Arts, or Visual Arts.
The Durham Region is located about an hour East of Toronto, in the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario. There is a mix of rural land in the north, with the South being more urban. Driving is popular to get around here, but there is also a transit system that allows people to travel all over, and popularly into Toronto. Ottawa Catholic School Board
SCHOOL AND ACADEMICS Founded in the 1800's, the Ottawa Catholic School Board is located in Ottawa, Ontario which is the capital city of Canada. In addition to five foreign languages and ESL, students have the opportunity to take a wide variety of arts, honors, and dual credit courses. The Ottawa Catholic School Board also offers courses in skilled trade, with the opportunity for students to earn a Technological Education Certificate in areas such as Computer, Green Industries, Health care, and more. Another Specialty Program in the Ottawa Catholic School Board is the Specialist High Skills Major program for students to focus on a career path that matches their skills, interests, and talents while working towards their high school diploma. Students in the Ottawa Catholic School Board are also offered a number of extracurricular activities, featuring both academic based clubs such as Girls in Engineering Club and interest based clubs like Boat Racing. Toronto District School Board
DISTRICT PROFILE With more than 588 schools, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is the English education school board for the city of Toronto. As the fourth-largest school board in North America, it is home to a number of high-performing high schools with numerous Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, French Immersion programs, AP courses, and International Baccalaureate Diploma schools. FACILITIES Facilities vary from school to school, but state-of-the-art classrooms are consistent throughout the district. Most schools have on-site athletic facilities as well, including playing fields and outdoor running tracks. SPORTS AND ARTS There are plenty of athletic opportunities for students to engage in throughout the three athletic seasons. There are plenty of mainstream sports such as hockey, soccer, and track and field, as well as more unique sports, like dragon boat racing (invented at L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) and ultimate frisbee. The district also has a variety of fine and performing arts. Fine arts examples include ceramics, photography, and painting, while performing arts include band, chorus, and theatre. AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS TDSB’s high schools have received an extensive amount of recognition for academic, athletic, and extracurricular excellence. Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute has a very strong business program, and has represented Canada at the DECA International Business Competitions, winning first place in 2009.
