School Description

Bishop O’Dowd High School is a private Catholic high school, that has been preparing young men and women for the future since 1951. The school’s challenging college prep curriculum includes Advanced Placement (AP), honors courses in 19 subjects, art and drama departments, a nationally renowned environmental science program, and five foreign languages.

Currently the school is in the process of completing a remodel of the academic facilities. This includes a Center for Environmental Studies, a state-of-the-art teaching space located in a 4.5-acre Living Lab that will feature two indoor science laboratory/classrooms, an outdoor classroom and a dedicated space for planning, research and experimentation. Technology is fully integrated on campus with easy access to internet and laptops in all classrooms.

Bishop O’Dowd earned the most points of all schools in the league they compete with in the fall, winter and spring sports seasons in the 2015/16 school year. Students are also encouraged to pursue their passion of art in courses, such as symphonic band and interactive design.

Oakland is a major West Coast port city - the third largest in the Bay Area with a population of almost 350,000. One of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in the nation, Oakland is a mix of urban and residential neighborhoods with exciting and diverse architecture, a bustling waterfront, 19 miles of bay shoreline, parks, dining and a vast array of cultural activities. Oakland is located only 20 minutes across the Bay from San Francisco.

Skype interview and testing required - must be proficient. Must fill out online application. They require that for any 9th grade students should have experience studying abroad. ELTiS test will be considered for studnets coming from Europe and South America. Accepts TOEFL, IELTS and SSAT.
