Founded on June 6, 1866, Santa Barbara’s educational tradition is one of the oldest in California. International students will have the chance to experience studying with their American peers at one of three high schools in the Santa Barbara area: Dos Pueblos High School, San Marcos High School, and Santa Barbara High School. Collectively these schools offer international students a challenging and varied curriculum with over 200 academic and elective courses to choose from.
Each school campus is about 40-acres and has specific amenities tailored to their special programs. Facilities will vary per campus and include sports fields, libraries, performing arts centers, and more.
SPORTS AND ARTS
The school district is famously known in sports and arts and has seen many students go on to become professional sports players, Olympians, award winning actors or film makers.
Beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and colorful culture make Santa Barbara a premier destination. Santa Barbara is a 2-hour drive north from Los Angeles or a short hop from any corner of the world via the Santa Barbara airport. Santa Barbara is home to the world famous Stearns Wharf, the zoological gardens, and Old Mission Santa Barbara.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION Woodland Hills is an affluent suburban area of Los Angeles that many celebrities and sports figures call home. It borders the Santa Monica Mountains to the north and is 45 minutes west of downtown Los Angeles.
Birmingham Community Charter High School
SCHOOL PROFILE Birmingham Community Charter High School is an independent US public high school accepting international students in grades 10-12. Different from traditional US public schools, charter schools are created by teachers, parents and the community under special terms. Birmingham Community Charter High School aims to prepare students through innovative and academically challenging curriculums including courses in topics like science, health and business technology. International students especially like the school’s personalized “Small Learning Communities.” FACILITIES Birmingham Community Charter High School is proud of its outstanding resources and state-of-the-art facilities. The school recently invested over $1 million dollars in technology tools, a medical lab and will soon be adding a new lab designed for classes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. SPORTS AND ARTS Birmingham Community Charter High School has one of the largest athletics program in the entire San Fernando Valley. As for arts, students have the option to take on subjects like creative and liberal arts, media, and performing and visual arts. COMMUNITY INFORMATION Birmingham is located in a suburban area of Los Angeles known as The San Fernando Valley. The “Valley” is centrally situated with easy access to public transportation - students can get to downtown LA in less than 30 minutes. “The City of Angels” (as it is famously known) is a global metropolis with unlimited cultural and recreational opportunities you’d expect from a world-class city.
Alameda Unified School District
DISTRICT PROFILE The Alameda Unified School’s diverse community of students is exposed to a rigorous academic program (including 14 AP courses) and a safe and secure environment that helps prepare students for success and community responsibility. International students can choose from a variety of academic programs including Advanced Placement courses in math, computer, biological and physical sciences, history, foreign languages, literature and government. Encinal High School even has its own dedicated international coordinator. Alameda High is known for being the former school of famous vocalist Jim Morrison, Lead singer of The Doors, and both schools have seen several baseball athletes make it to the US Major Leagues. FACILITIES The facilities in the Alameda Unified School District include a swimming pool, an auditorium, sports fields, and media centers. SPORTS AND ARTS Alameda has a very competitive athletic program, with many graduates going on to play baseball professionally. Students have had the opportunity to compete in 8 WACC (West Alameda County Conference) titles, as well as take home a number of exciting 2nd and 3rd place finishes, in the 2015/2016 school year. Committed to exposing students to the arts, Encinal High School offers programs in visual and multimedia art, journalism, yearbook, choir, music, Theater, and dance.
