School Description

Maine School of Science and Mathematics is a unique STEM-track boarding school situated along the Canadian border in Northern Maine. The school features a rigorous academic curriculum and a partnership with a local university that allows students to
enroll in dual enrollment courses for college credit.

In addition to Maine’s vast expanse of northern New England countryside, Maine School of Science and Mathematics students have access to a Jr. Olympic swimming pool, five sports fields, multiple science labs, and an organic chemistry greenhouse.

The school offers several competitive and recreational sports such as cross country, soccer, and volleyball. The school’s northeastern location provides a long ski season, making their Nordic skiing team particularly strong.
Students can learn about the wilderness that surrounds them in classes such as Acadian culture and history, or develop their fine and performing arts skills with courses like watercolor and theater.
In 2019, Maine School of Science and Mathematics is ranked the 2nd best high school in the United States by US News and World Report. The school took first place in the 2019 Maine State Science Bowl and the 2019 Maine State Math Meet. Two of Maine School of Science and Mathematics’ Robotics teams qualified for the 2019 VEX Robotics World Championship.

Boarding students live in a large five-wing dorm with several lounges, full kitchens, and a connected combination gym, game room, and music practice rooms. Students participate in various clubs and activities such as dances. Weekend trips and activities have included hiking, concerts, and dog sled races.
