School Description

Founded in 1958, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School is the top ranked coeducational Catholic High School in the Washington DC area. It has won the prestigious US Blue Ribbon Educational Award twice and named one of “the Most Challenging High Schools in the USA” by the Washington Post in 2017. Currently enrolled are 1,250 young men and women from grades 9 to 12, including less than 4% of international students. We have attracted students from France, Germany, Austria, Iran, Mexico, India, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey, India, Liberia and China. Students find success in the International Baccalaureate, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Fine Arts, and College Preparatory programs.

FACILITIES
The facilities include a 650-seat Performing Arts Center, 51 acres of athletic fields, 10 science labs, a dance studio, a chapel, two weight rooms, two gyms, a football stadium with a turf field, multiple soccer and baseball fields, and 50 classrooms wired with Apple TV / Smart Boards.

SPORTS AND ARTS
Good Counsel’s superior athletic program has had students continue on to become Olympic gold medalists and professional athletes in MBA and NFL. The Arts Masterworks program enables students to pursuit careers in music, theater, dance and the visual arts.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
A 45-minute drive from America’s capital, Olney was ranked as the 17th best place to live by Money Magazine in 2007 and as the 22nd “top-earning Town” in America in 2013. Our Lady of Good Counsel has revised their application requirements to: TOEFL scores are preferred. Successful students usually have around an 80. SSAT, HSPT or PSAT scores are helpful for admission but not required.

Other - Eligibility Requirements?
SSAT is preferred in addition to the TOEFL (no minimum for SSAT at this moment). Math, English and IB placement tests are required. $5000 scholarship to to non-Chinese speaking students who do not need ELL and with a strong transcript. I-20s are provided after May 15th. If the English test is not ready, the school will interview the student. Our Lady can offer a conditional acceptance based on TOEFL to be submitted later. Spring year available to US transfer students.
