HIGHLIGHT INFO

Established in 1796, Oakwood Friends School is the oldest coed boarding school in New York State. Oakwood is a Quaker school, promoting the values of peace, integrity, equality, community, and simplicity. Many students pursue careers in business or the sciences after completing the school’s comprehensive STEM program, while others develop their musical abilities through its partnership with Marist College.

FACILITIES
Oakwood Friends’ 63-acre campus features an art studio, ceramics studio, black-box theater, film photography studio and dark room, full-size gymnasium, tennis courts, and a sports field. A two-acre solar field provides 100% of electricity used by the school, and a student-run greenhouse provides the dining hall’s produce.

SPORTS AND ARTS
All students participate in at least one team sport and one life sport per academic year. Options include as Soccer, Cross-Country, Basketball, Baseball, Ultimate Frisbee, martial
arts, Archery, and table tennis.
Oakwood students can participate in a variety of creative arts opportunities such as theater productions, art classes, and bands. The school’s music partnership with Marist College allows students to prepare for a future musical career.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Oakwood received the Dutchess Outreach Community Award in 2018 for their local community service. Humanities Department chair, Stephen Miller, received PLATO’s Kinsley Award for K-12 philosophy teachers. He also received APPE’s award for Best Formal Paper on Pre-College Ethics, he is a member of the Teachers Advisory Council of the National Humanities Center, and was selected to be a keynote speaker for the 24th World Conference of Philosophy hosted at Peking University. Alumni of Oakwood include former US Poet Laureate Mark Strand and women’s rights activist Lucretia Mott.

DORMITORIES AND STUDENT LIFE
Students live in double rooms with access to laundry, kitchens, and lounges. Students regularly travel off-campus to destinations such as restaurants and sporting events.
