Kingsley School is best described as a close-knit community, a school which helps children come out of their shell, develop friendships with other students, deepen their confidence and achieve their best academic performance. Students at Kingsley have the sensation of living and learning in a family setting - all the teachers know all the students on a first-name basis. The school has the added benefit of providing students with much smaller class sizes than a typical school, or indeed other independent schools. The school provides the perfect start to education, offering confidence-building extracurricular activities and a level of pastoral care which is second to none.
Kingsley School is based on a 25-acre site on the outskirts of Bideford in beautiful North Devon. As well as sports pitches and an all-weather pitch, the 25 acres of grounds consist of woodland streams and a pond which are regularly used by cross-country runners, science and geography field studies, and Forest Schools.
The main building on the senior school site has been completely rebuilt and refurbished, providing state of the art facilities in Science, Art and Drama. The Theatre and Library are widely used for both school and community events, and the Music and Music Technology department incorporates a recording studio, newly-built to professional standards. The school also has a dedicated dyslexia centre.
Sports & Arts
Every weekend sees a full fixture list for Kingsley teams in sports such as rugby, cricket, hockey, netball, athletics gymnastics, swimming and cross-country. The school is proud of its regional and national champions in sports as diverse as handball, gymnastics, netball and athletics and its unique training partnership with the famous University of Bath Department of Sports Development and Recreation has attracted leading judo players to Kingsley from the UK and Germany.
Kingsley's art students regularly create stunning pieces for local exhibitions and regional competitions, and the music department nurtures all kinds of talent, with events ranging from intimate cabaret evenings to all-singing, all-dancing large cast musicals.
Dormitories & Student Life
Boarders at Kingsley enjoy excellent accommodation, good food, a secure and happy environment and a well-planned range of social activities. Younger boarders share their sleeping and working areas. As they progress through the school, they move into single, well-furnished and equipped, studies. At weekends, in addition to participating in many sports fixtures all students enjoy, boarders have their own social calendar, including shopping trips, tenpin bowling, swimming and horse riding. Not to mention, given our proximity to some terrific beaches, surfing.
