California State University Northridge is a member of the CSU system, a top educational system contributing strongly to today’s in-demand career fields such as agriculture, business, health and medicine, engineering, and many more. The school is in a premier location in the heart of Los Angeles, about 30 minutes from the beaches of Santa Monica and right next to many exciting Southern California attractions. On campus, explore the beautifully landscaped grounds, botanical garden, and one of the few remaining historic orange groves thriving on the southeastern campus quad. 

The faculty at Cal State Northridge have also been recognized for their high quality. Eight faculty members have been awarded prestigious Guggenheim Fellowships for research and creative activity, while 59 have won Fulbright awards to conduct research or teach abroad.

Study Abroad for Visiting Students

For undergraduate and graduate students

Students can study at CSUN for one or two semesters without going through the formal admission process.  Courses taken at “Semester at CSUN” can be transferred to the student’s home university for credit. Each semester at CSUN offers courses in more than 60 different academic programs. The primary benefit of “Semester at CSUN” over regular admission is that students can pre-select classes. All course instruction and faculty available to full-time CSUN degree students are also available to “Semester at CSUN” students.


  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Undergraduate: TOEFL 61 IBT, IELTS 5.5, iTEP 5.0, PTE Academic 45
  • Graduate: TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.0, PTE Academic 58
  • TOEFL waivers available for students from Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark (subject to review)

Conditional Admission + ESL

Students who meet the academic requirements for admission to CSU Northridge for undergraduate programs or MBA, but who are missing their English language proficiency requirement, may be eligible for conditional admission.  These students are granted admission to CSUN’s  Intensive English Program (IEP) and issued a conditional admission letter to CSUN for their desired program. 

Undergraduate Requirements:

  • Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
  • TOEFL 61 IBT or equivalent IELTS score

Graduate Requirements:

Bachelor degree with minimum GPA 2.5

  • TOEFL 80 ibt/IELTS 6.5
  • GMAT/GRE depending on program


On Campus Housing

Students stay in apartment-style accommodations that provide visiting students the opportunity to live in the same on-campus community with regular university students.

Housing units are gated complexes with key card security access. Each suite is a comfortable two-person bedroom with a semi-private bath. Every group of 16 suites has its own “hub” of living and study lounges. Meals in the main dining room and recreation in the community center bring people together. Free wireless Internet and Ethernet are included, along with cable TV options. On campus accommodation comes with standard meal plan.
