HIGHLIGHT INFO

Situated just outside the city of Liverpool, Birkenhead School is one of the UK's leading co-educational independent private schools. For nearly 160 years, the school has been providing a first-class education and a warm and welcoming close-knit community for both local and international students. Thanks to small class sizes, students can benefit from lessons tailored to their individual interests and aims, in addition to having more opportunities to take part and express their opinions. Many of the school's teachers are experts within their fields and thus bring a wealth of experience from outside the classroom to truly enrich students' learning as they work towards GCSE and A Level qualifications. The school’s academic reputation speaks for itself, as Birkenhead has a long tradition of supporting students to progress to Oxbridge and other prestigious universities, both in the UK and further afield.

Facilities
Located within the leafy suburb of Oxton in Birkenhead, the school enjoys a stunning setting for its campus, with the sports field at its centre, overlooked by the beautiful cricket pavilion and chapel. The open campus provides space for students, adding to the sense of community throughout the school and with each section having its own dedicated area, students have a real sense of progressing through their educational journey. In addition to the picturesque site, the school also benefits from McAllester Field on Bidston Road and the Noctorum Ground which both provide additional sports facilities and event locations.

Sports and Arts
Sport is a large part of life at Birkenhead School, with students taking part in a wide and varied Games and PE curriculum and numerous sports clubs both during and after school. Rugby, lacrosse, cricket, netball, tennis, hockey and golf are just some of the sports played at the school. The school looks to offer opportunities that spark passions and interests and broaden students' outlooks. A range of clubs are open to students, including dance, gymnastics, climbing, coding, languages, astronomy, unicycling, choir and orienteering. Talents in all areas are nurtured and encouraged and pupils from the school have represented the various disciplines at local, regional and national levels.

Student Life
Outside the classroom, Birkenhead School provides a range of skills sessions to complement and extend each student's learning, as well as stretch their minds and imaginations. Recent options for the 'Future Skills' and 'Beyond the Curriculum' programmes have included Etiquette lessons, Architecture, Classical Greek, Science in the Community, Photography, Writing for Publication and Global Issues. School trips undertaken in recent years include trekking in Nepal, a Physics trip to the CERN laboratory in Switzerland and sports tours in South America. Lifelong friendships are made at school, with each pupil's individual personality and character being given plenty of opportunity to shine through.
