Mount Kelly is located on the outskirts of Tavistock, a beautiful English market town on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and a 1-hour train journey from the coastal city of Plymouth. A fully independent co-educational day and boarding school established in 1877, Mount Kelly combines academic excellence, an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom and exceptional pastoral care. Excellent academic programs include a range of GCSE courses, plus more than 20 A Level subjects, all taught by teachers who are leading subject specialists. Facilities
The stunning school campus covers 150 acres and has 2 swimming pools, a sports pavilion, a climbing wall, squash courts, a conditioning gym, art studios, 2 design and technology workrooms and 2 music theatres. Outdoors, the school boasts a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts and 8 grass pitches for sports and games. The school also has access to an on-site lake and a woodland area.
Sports & Arts
The school is famous for its internationally-renowned Mount Kelly Swim Programme, which has produced many professional swimmers who have won a total of 29 Olympic and Commonwealth medals over the last 30 years. The new 50m Olympic swimming pool, which opened in September 2016, has enabled the programme to grow and develop even further. The indoor facilities enable all-weather participation in a wide range of sports and games including hockey, rugby, netball, cricket, tennis and athletics. Music also plays a key role in school life, and students are encouraged to participate in ensembles, concerts and choir. A wide range of clubs is open to students no matter what their interests are- including outdoor pursuits, speech and drama, publishing a student magazine, chess or voluntary community action.
Dormitories & Student Life
Boarders and day pupils are valued equally at Mount Kelly, with each of the school’s 5 houses containing a mix of both. Each house has its own identity, however family values such as mutual respect, tolerance for others and kindness form the core principles for everyone. Each house is organised around the needs of pupils and the available facilities and accommodation ranges from dormitories to study bedrooms for boarders and a mix of day rooms for day pupils. The vibrant and busy 7-day boarding community allows international pupils to fully integrate and make the most of all the excellent opportunities available at the school. The Mount Kelly community welcomes and benefits from the inclusion of students from lots of different countries and the catering department are well known for their international cuisine.
