The Doane Stuart School is an independent, coeducational day school that provides a rigorous college preparatory course of study. Each year Doane Stuart enrolls 100% of the graduating class in colleges and universities. Doane Stuart chooses to be small, with a student/faculty ratio of 7/1 and an average class size of 15. The admission process is highly selective, offering admission only to students who possess significant academic motivation, a record of sound academic achievement, and a desire to be active participants in the school community.
FACILITIES
The school is situated on 27 acres with spacious classrooms and sports fields. In May of 2014, Doane Stuart began construction on a 22,000 square-foot vegetative roof. Funded by a $1.4 million grant from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, the roof reduces stormwater runoff, improves insulation and decreases energy use and expenses. As such, the green roof is yet another example of Doane Stuart’s commitment to sustainable practices. Students in our Upper School Green Roof Class participated in discussions of the landscape design, which includes a patio, central garden, outdoor science lab and accessible green space. Students also studied weather patterns, seed dispersal and biodiversity to determine the types of plants and animals that could thrive on the roof.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Doane Stuart international students are encouraged both to participate and to take leadership roles on athletic teams. Our athletics program is designed to help our athletes hone skills, develop resilience, and practice the best of teamwork.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
The town of Rensselaer is located in a suburban area just minutes from our international airport, rail and bus stations. The state capital of Albany in only three miles from the school. There are many museums, outdoor activities - ski slopes, disc golf, hiking trails, restaurants and shopping centers very close nearby. With more than a dozen colleges within 30 minutes of the school, higher learning is very accessible.
