Urbandale High School’s diverse, multi-cultural community collectively speaks over 40 different languages. Located only 20 minutes from Iowa’s capital of Des Moines, Urbandale High was named "State School of Character" for its character-building education, leadership and mentoring programs.

FACILITIES
The school’s facilities include a performing arts center, a media center, computer labs, a football stadium, gymnasiums, softball and baseball fields, and locker rooms. In 2020, they opened a state-of-the-art fitness center.

SPORTS AND ARTS
Urbandale High School celebrates its accomplished athletes with its own Hall of Fame. Recent state championships include dance in 2021, cheerleading in 2020, and baseball in 2019.
Students in the arts programs showcase their music and art at local festivals, productions, and parades. Arts options include dance, photography, and film production. Seven students were selected for the 2021 Instrumental All-State Festival, which is the highest honor a student can receive from the Iowa High School Music Association.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The school’s physics team competed in the annual Tau Beta Pi Roller Coaster Engineering Competition and won all six possible awards. The school received the Iowa High School Musical Theater Award as well as the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for its commitment to community service. Two Urbandale students presented their research at the Global Youth Institute.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION
Urbandale is located in the country’s so-called “Heartland,” nicknamed for both its location in the heart of the US and its kind community atmosphere. The small city is located close to Iowa’s capital where students can go to fairs, shows, and restaurants.
