The Sports and Music Development Centres at York College provide talented student athletes with the opportunity to combine an outstanding education with high quality coaching in either Men’s and Women’s Football, Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Netball. All of those selected will follow a full-time education programme as well as receiving expert coaching in their chosen sport or extra tuition in their musical instrument or vocal performance. Successful involvement in the Development Centre programmes will provide students with opportunities to progress into: careers in professional/semi-professional sport (this is only for those who show exceptional development), coaching, refereeing, work in sport and recreation, further and higher education, scholarships, or places at Conservatoires
The college has a fantastic reputation for student progression, both into industry jobs and top universities. Last year, approximately 1,000 York College students submitted successful university applications. Out of this significant number, 5 students secured places at Oxford or Cambridge. More than 50 York students have been accepted to Oxbridge in the last 10 years.
