School Description

Found in northern California, Chico Unified School District is known for academic excellence. International students are eligible to attend one of two high schools within the district and are encouraged to join school activities and clubs.

The district offers a wide array of facilities at each high school campus. They offer auditoriums, libraries, science and computer labs, sports fields, tracks, and more. The district regularly makes updates to their schools to ensure they are modern and is currently working on a new high school gym project for one of their high schools.

Chico Unified has a number of teams ranging from cross country to snowboarding. The cross country team has taken part in several championship titles in the last ten years. State regulations in California can cause some restrictions for international students playing Varsity-level sports at their school. Please contact us for details.
Art courses at Chico Unified School District are plentiful and fill student interests from photography to band to drawing. The school theater departments are also known to put on drama and musical productions.

Several schools within the district have received the California Gold Ribbon School over the last few year with the latest high school receiving it in 2017. Additionally, in the last 10 years, one of the district’s three high school cross country teams are 7-time Championship participants for the Eastern Athletic League and the Northern Section CIF.

Chico, in the heart of the Sacramento Valley, is located 1.5 hours north of Sacramento, the capital of California, and about three hours north east of San Francisco. The city gives off a university town vibe and hosts the California State University of Chico. Students will be able to enjoy theater performances, concerts, Friday night music events downtown along with fishing, hiking, kayaking and more! Chico is also within driving distance of both Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
