A top high school in the state, Newton South High School's rigorous academics are reflected in their exceptional average SAT scores of 1325 and 97% college acceptance rate. Students have access to programs such as STEAM and career and vocational technical education. The schools offers 5 foreign languages and 20 AP courses. Over 50% of students maintain a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
FACILITIES
The Newton South campus features vocational technology education equipment and a culinary arts facility. The Newton South Recreation Complex offers a gym, an indoor track, a fitness room, a wrestling/dance room, a wellness classroom, and locker rooms.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Students can play on various championship teams such as volleyball and ice hockey. They can also take advantage of New England's climate by competing on the ski team.
Newton South has a very strong arts program. At the 2016 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, 34 students won 81 awards. Famous alumni of the school include producer, actor, and writer of NBC's hit comedy The Office B.J. Novak as well as The Office actor John Krasinski.

Newton South was ranked the #6 best public school in Massachusetts by Boston Magazine, taking into account class sizes, test scores, and AP participation. In 2018, 16 students were 2018 National AP Scholars. US News and World Report ranked Newton South as the 29th best school in Massachusetts, and Niche.com rated it "A+".

Newton, is a unique suburb of Boston with a system of villages. Downtown Boston is only 10 miles from the school and accessible by public transportation. In 2012, Newton was named the 4th best small city to live in America by Money Magazine.
