Maine Central Institute

Private Boarding School – Pittsfield , Maine

Founded in 1866, Maine Central Institute (MCI) retains much of its original spirit and philosophy. The institute pledges to provide a rigorous, comprehensive educational program to a multicultural student body with a wide range of abilities and interests.

In a safe and caring atmosphere, students acquire knowledge, self-esteem, social responsibility and the critical thinking and communication skills necessary for global citizenship and lifelong learning. MCI and the town of Pittsfield emulate what life in Maine should be. The state has a long history and tradition of welcoming friends and visitors. Students feel safe and accepted by this community of 4,500 people. In this welcoming environment, day students and residential students both have found a unique way of coming together. This welcoming, accepting and friendly attitude is what the state of Maine is known for!

Academic and Sport Facilities
MCI’s picturesque, tree-lined campus consists of four classroom buildings, including the new Math and Science Center, a 23,00 square foot state-of –the-art building that provides fourteen instructional spaces, two computer classrooms, a chemistry lab and a botany area. More than 210 computers are available for student use campus-wide. The library houses over 8,000 books and has a computerized card catalog and Infotrac as well as Internet access. A music building and two gymnasiums are also on campus.

MCI’s sports facilities include two gymnasiums with modern basketball courts and weightlifting equipment, football, soccer, hockey and baseball fields, a track, a rifle range and tennis courts. Nearby ski facilities are used for skiing competitions.

Dormitories and Student Residences
MCI currently has three residence halls, two for boys and one for girls. Rooms are Internet and cable ready. Phones are available in each residence hall for student use. Personal cell phones may also be used. Students may have small refrigerators, TVs, stereos, irons and personal computers in their rooms. The residential hall lounges are common areas for all boarding students and their guests to enjoy. Laundry facilities are located in each dorm’s lower level.
