SCHOOL PROFILE AND ACADEMICS The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is located along the coast of Lake Ontario and is a little more than an hour outside of Toronto. The Durham Catholic District School Board has four different foreign languages to offer in addition to their ESL program. All the schools in this district also have Advanced Placement courses for students to take as well as a couple Dual Credit course opportunities. SCHOOL AND ACADEMICS Coquitlam, in Metro Vancouver, is a public-school district in British Columbia, Canada. Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute
SCHOOL PROFILE AND ACADEMICS Located in the quaint town of Vankleek Hill in eastern Ontario, Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute has a reputation for providing strong academics, sports, and a variety of extracurricular pursuits. It offers international students language support with an ESL program and features a specialist high skills major program in health and wellness. Students can also participate in unique programs such as dual enrollment courses for simultaneous high school and college credit as well as technical career courses such as travel and tourism or manufacturing and construction. FACILITIES Campus facilities include modern, high-tech classrooms equipped with Smartboards, science labs with professional software, a multimedia center, and music, drama, and art studios. Students also have access to a gymnasium, a fitness center, a running track, a weight room, and multiple sports fields. Students in the manufacturing and construction technical career program have access to a professional workshop with state of the art tools and materials. SPORTS AND ARTS Students at Vankleek can participate in individual and team sports such as track and field, soccer, volleyball, badminton, football, and basketball. There are also cross country, hockey, rugby, curling, wrestling, and lacrosse teams. The school offers a wide array of art programs like drama, music, and concert band, as well as classes in film and video arts. AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS The boys curling team at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute has won the regional championships and gone on to play in the provincial championship tournament two years in a row in 2017 and 2018. In spring 2018, 19 students in the Upper Canada District School Board qualified for the Skills Ontario Competition: an event that allows students to demonstrate their technical abilities learned through specialized high-skills major programs. UCDSB was also named one of 2017's most energy-efficient school districts in the province of Ontario. COMMUNITY INFORMATION Located in eastern Ontario, Vankleek Hill is situated about an hour’s drive from both downtown Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. The village is famous for Victorian-era buildings and homes lining the streets. The intimate community is home to local hockey and soccer teams. Unique to Vankleek Hill is its impressive community garden, which has two acres of organically-grown produce harvested by residents. The tight-knit community has lots of events that take place at the town’s arena and fair grounds, plus it has a nine-hole golf course with a driving range.
