To be honest, I prefer the Canadian way of educating high schoolers better, but I also believe both education systems are some of the best in the world.

With more than 588 schools, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is the English education school board for the city of Toronto. As the fourth-largest school board in North America, it is home to a number of high-performing high schools with numerous Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs, French Immersion programs, AP courses, and International Baccalaureate Diploma schools.
Facilities vary from school to school, but state-of-the-art classrooms are consistent throughout the district. Most schools have on-site athletic facilities as well, including playing fields and outdoor running tracks.
SPORTS AND ARTS
There are plenty of athletic opportunities for students to engage in throughout the three athletic seasons. There are plenty of mainstream sports such as hockey, soccer, and track and field, as well as more unique sports, like dragon boat racing (invented at L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute) and ultimate frisbee.
The district also has a variety of fine and performing arts. Fine arts examples include ceramics, photography, and painting, while performing arts include band, chorus, and theatre.
AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
TDSB’s high schools have received an extensive amount of recognition for academic, athletic, and extracurricular excellence. Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute has a very strong business program, and has represented Canada at the DECA International Business Competitions, winning first place in 2009.
The most populous city in Canada, Toronto is a world-class metropolis. Located on the banks of Lake Ontario, it is a global center for business, finance, and art, including the world-renowned Toronto Film Festival. It is home to nearly 3,000,000 residents, and remains an important destination for people immigrating to Canada, as it is extremely diverse.

SCHOOL PROFILE AND ACADEMICS Opened in 1998, Westwood Senior High School is part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board and its mission is to allow students to play an active role in their education. The school is located in the French-speaking province of Quebec, and while the school’s curriculum is fully taught in English, it offers French Immersion to students looking to further their knowledge of the French language. Westwood also offers an advanced math and technology program, “Matrix,” offering an academically challenging curriculum along with fun field trips to New York City, Boston, and Ottawa. FACILITIES Students at Westwood Senior High School have access to modern classrooms, a library, a computer lab, open green space, and more. SCHOOL PROFILE AND ACADEMICS The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is located along the coast of Lake Ontario and is a little more than an hour outside of Toronto. The Durham Catholic District School Board has four different foreign languages to offer in addition to their ESL program. All the schools in this district also have Advanced Placement courses for students to take as well as a couple Dual Credit course opportunities. There are also many electives for students to choose from including Drama, Law, and Marketing. Extracurricular activities are quite popular at the schools, featuring both artistic options such as Art Club and Drama Club and interest-based clubs such as Social Justice and Yearbook.
