Havant and South Downs College

UK Hampshire, UK

Situated across two campuses on the beautiful south coast of England, Havant and South Downs College is a Sixth Form centre of excellence offering a wide range of A Level and vocational qualifications.A Level students have a 98% pass rate, with 42% of students achieving the highest grades of A*-B. With such strong results and extra-curricular activities, it’s no wonder that many Havant and South Downs students progress to study at leading Russell Group universities. Equally, with the range of transferable skills gained at college, students also have the option to go straight into employment. Staff are committed to providing students with the highest level of teaching and learning possible and whatever their nationality, background or aspirations, all students are supported to ensure they reach their fullest potential. Facilities Students can benefit from the wide range of modern facilities across both campuses. Dance studios, science labs, recording studios, a fully equipped gym and 4G Astro-pitch, art studios, study centres, libraries, a sensory room – the list is endless. Between lessons, there are plenty of social spaces for students to grab lunch or a coffee with friends, relax in the student lounge, or even enjoy the outdoor seating area in the warmer months. Beyond the fantastic campus sites, the local area offers lots to see and do and has excellent transport connections into the modern island city of Portsmouth. Sports & Arts There’s a lot more to Havant and South Downs College than just gaining qualifications. The Be Extraordinary programme is designed to give students lots of new opportunities and experiences. For students who enjoy keeping active, the college offers a range of sports teams for them to join. Whether they want to keep fit, get to know new people, or are aiming at competing at the highest level, there are lots of sporting activities to get involved in. Thanks to having two campuses, students have twice the opportunity to take part in trips and societies and spend time developing their interests and skills beyond the classroom. Student Life Havant and South Downs College encourages students to become independent adults by taking ownership of their studies and managing their spare time effectively, and this is encouraged by the college’s progressive approach to timetabling. Classes do not start until 10am as academic research shows that teenagers learn better later in the day. Students have 5 hours of teaching time per subject, per week, which is more than any other college in the local area. Staff always devise timetables with student feedback and needs in mind, so study time is scheduled into the day, thus giving students who are well-organised the chance to keep evenings free for extra-curricular activities and socialising.
