School DescriptionFounded in 1853 Grier School is a girls’ boarding school that provides young women with a well-rounded education in a safe setting. Students at Grier explore their passions and discover new interests in academics, arts and athletics. Students are challenged in a variety of ways, but will find that support is always there. Learning how to think, listen, communicate with others and make decisions, students enjoy personal growth in the company of other young people and faculty members whose influence on the student will last a lifetime.
Nine new buildings have been added to the campus since 2000 including three dormitories and facilities for the arts, music, science, dance and horseback riding. The facilities also include a gymnasium, studio spaces, soccer and tennis fields, and a heated outdoor swimming pool.
Sports and Arts
Grier offers many sports that encourage a healthy, active lifestyle for students to gain confidence and relaxation. These sports include: Karate/Self-Defense, Yoga, Boot Camp, and Horseback Riding. Grier also offers an abundance of studio art classes taught by practicing artists and designed around the Elements and Principles of Design.
Dormitories and Student Life
The majority of dorm rooms at Grier are double rooms with an adjoining bathroom including a toilet, sink and shower. Rooms are furnished with closets, twin beds, desks and chests of drawers.

SCHOOL PROFILE Located less than an hour from historic Philadelphia, The Phelps School’s small student body ensures intimate class sizes and a low teacher to student ratio of only 1:4. The school places an emphasis on physical activity, offering courses such as fitness/weight training and health and physical education, and every student completes two health and/or fitness classes. FACILITIES The campus’ academic and administrative buildings are located a short walk from the dormitories, while athletes have access to facilities such as a new athletic center, soccer and lacrosse fields, all-weather tennis courts, a running track, a basketball court, a fitness room, a wrestling ring, a weight room, volleyball courts, and a roller hockey rink. SPORTS AND ARTS The 2015 Phelps School basketball team won the PAISSA state championship. The school’s new athletic center features a 500-seat competition gymnasium. Students interested in the arts can take courses such as ceramics and studio art.
Mercyhurst Preparatory School
SCHOOL PROFILE Mercyhurst Preparatory School (MPS) is a Catholic college prep school for grades 9-12 on a beautiful campus. Students at Mercyhurst Prep can choose one of three tracks: College Preparatory Program, Honors Program or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB). All students also have the opportunity to participate in athletic, co-curricular activities and/or social events. Honors or IB students can dual enroll at Mercyhurst University located adjacent to MPS. Additional ESL classes and tutors are available for students who are seeking additional assistance in the program. FACILITIES The facilities include a new auditorium/theater, a DREAM Lab (design, research, arts, engineering, and math), a newly transformed Library/Research Center, and a dining hall with food prepared by dietary professionals. SPORTS AND ARTS Mercyhurst Preparatory School has won eight State Championships and each year dozens of MPS student athletes go on to compete at the collegiate level.
