Founded in 1949, Heelen Catholic High School is a co-educational private high school in Sioux City, Iowa. Heelan Catholic offers English as a Second Language, accelerated reading and math programs, tutoring, student mentoring, area education agency services and college-level courses. Their student test scores are consistently above local, state and national averages. Every year over 90% of graduates go onto college, most of them to four-year colleges.
FACILITIES
The campus features high-tech classrooms, a state-of-the-art media center, climate-controlled rooms, improved athletic facilities, and flexible, energy-efficient spaces. Their new fieldhouse offers seating for 1600, air conditioning and an indoor track. Each one of their wireless-access classrooms is equipped with a 70-inch Vizio TV to connect with faculty laptops and tablets. Heelan’s five science classrooms feature a lab in each room to enable more hands-on learning without switching rooms.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Bishop Heelan High School is known for its competitive athletics. Their Crusader athletes enjoy a rich history of city, conference and state titles while competing against some of the best teams in the tri-state area.
Their show choirs earn trophies and Marching Band, Jazz Band and Concert Bands shine in competitions.

In addition to an "A" rating on Niche.com, they are also rated #2 Best Catholic High School in Iowa. Their 2020 and 2022 graduating classes include 5 National Merit Scholars.

Twice named an All-America City by the National Civic League and designated as an Iowa Great Place, Sioux City, Iowa serves as the regional hub for educational opportunities.
